Now in its eighth year, Furusato Matsuri is a highly popular event that has been held annually since 2009, with fans and visitors steadily increasing each year. Last year's event has attracted more than 400,000 visitors from all over the city and the country. The 10-day event showcases a selection of the hottest matsuri performances and a huge number of food stalls serving regional cuisine gathered from throughout Japan. From Hokkaido up north to Okinawa down south, all of your favorite standard dishes to B-class gourmet, local sake and beer, and assorted desserts at this event are sure to satisfy your palate. As for the matsuri festivals, everything from the gigantic floats of Aomori Nebuta Festival, the dynamic pole lantern performance of Akita Kanto Festival, to the colorful dancing parade of Morioka Sansa Festival will touch upon Japan’s vibrant culture from each part of the region. Then, there's the national local donburi (rice bowl dish) championship—one of the highlights of Furusato Matsuri where visitors can explore the many flavors unique to Japan and cast a vote for their favorite bowl. The grand champion of local bowls will be decided with your vote!
