Toshiba Grand Concert 35th Anniversary

In 2016, one of the most venerable annual classical music events Toshiba Grand Concert celebrates its 35th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, Toshiba Grand Concert is bringing the Staatskapelle Berlin and the general music director Daniel Barenboim. The Staatskapelle Berlin is the in-house orchestra of Berlin Staatsoper (the Berlin State Opera), which became affiliated with the Royal Court Opera in 1742. Over the years, this renowned German orchestra has been led by some of the most distinguished musical directors including Richard Strauss and Herbert von Karajan. In 1992, Daniel Barenboim was appointed as its general musical director, and it has been 9 years since their last performance with the maestro Barenboim in Japan. At the upcoming concert in Tokyo, they will perform the Bruckner cycle, which no other foreign orchestras have ever accomplished in such a short time span in the Japanese classical concert history. Furthermore, Mozart piano concerto performed by Barenboim himself is also another highlight of the concerts. The concert series will certainly be the epoch-making project in Japanese classical music scene. We all heartily hope audience will enjoy this truly magnificent concert.
