The Waste Land

Story

The Fuji Television drama, “The Waste Land”, marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Fuji Television. It’s based on Toyoko Yamazaki’s best-selling novel, “Fumo Chitai” (The Waste Land) which sold over 5 million copies (as of October, 2009). The story takes place in post-war Japan, when the country was working hard to support Japan’s high-speed growth. For 11 long years, ex-staff officer of the Imperial Army Headquarters, Tadashi Iki, is detained in Siberia and suffers a great hardship. After returning to Japan, he joins a trading company and takes part in a new “battlefield”, the business world. “The Waste Land” takes place over a 30-year span and will be aired over a period of six months and filmed in various countries around the world.
